Our Board of Directors
Gail was most recently the Executive Director of the Washington State Community College Foundation. She held a similar position in New York State following work as a high school and college teacher and corporate administration positions. Gail has held leadership positions in church, community and service organizations.
Doug is a retired Chevron Corporation terminal manager. He and his wife recently returned to their roots in Marietta.
Mark is a life-long educator, having taught at the high school and college levels. He currently serves as Washington State Community College's Vice President for Academic Affairs. He is an active member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Belpre. Mark and his wife Terry live in Veto with their daughter Maria.
Ernest Gath (Ernie) has served on the board of WCHOH for over six years. Presently he serves on the Program and Personnel Committee and as chair of the Finance Committee. He also goes out in the truck with Doug Beymer once a month picking up and delivering food to local food pantries and community meal programs. Ernie grew up on a farm in SW Pennsylvania along with two brothers. He graduated from Marietta College where he majored in chemistry and mathematics. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln earning an MS degree in chemistry. After teaching in Nebraska for four years, he taught chemistry for another 35 years at Marietta High School. He and his wife Nina have two sons, one daughter, and seven grandchildren. Ernie says about Harvest of Hope, “This has been a most rewarding opportunity for me to help my neighbors who are struggling with providing their families with needed nutrition."
Susan, who has a background with more than 20 years of sales, marketing and management experience, is the Assistant Director of the Marietta Fund at Marietta College. Her responsibilities include leadership annual giving, direct mail, Marietta College Phonathon and the Senior Challenge campaign.
Judy is the Director of the Lowell Area Mission Basket Food Pantry. She is on the Lowell Village Council and active with auxiliaries in the Lowell community.
Sarah works as an Operations Analyst at Peoples Bank where she serves as part of the Acquisition and Conversion team. In her spare time, Sarah coaches Warren Elementary Schools 7th & 8th grade Cheerleading Team, volunteers with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Washington County, teaches elementary Sunday school at First Baptist Church and serves as a member of the Marietta College Career Center Advisory Council.
Rachel hails from Oley, PA.. She is a senior at Marietta College, studying biochemistry on a pre-veterinary track. She runs cross country and track and field for Marietta, and is also involved in scientific research through Marietta’s chemistry department. She has a passion for music, athletics, science, and animals. She plays piano and violin and loves to sing! She has been volunteering in various organizations since ninth grade, including education programs, churches, and low-cost clinics. She is excited to be able to work with Washington County Harvest of Hope to continue improving the lives of others!
Heather serves as Dean of Health Sciences at Washington State Community College where she also has worded as Director and a faculty member for the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. Heather holds a Ph.D. in Education from Ohio University, a Masters of Education from Marietta College, a Bachelor of Science from Ohio University, and an Associate of Applied Science from Washington State Community College. She is a member of the Community Health Council and the Washington County Free Clinic Board. Heather lives in Lowell. Ohio, with her husband Mark. Their children are Chase and Alexandria. Heather’s interests include gardening and piano.
Christopher works as a Marketing Specialist for Memorial Health Systems and has also served as Director of Web Services for Marietta College. He holds a Masters of Web Design and Online Communication from the University of Florida, College of Journalism, and a Bachelors of Advertising/Public Relations from Marietta College. His volunteer activities include Director of Fundraising, Marietta Delt Educational Foundation; Fundraising Chair, Marietta Delt Alumni Association; Assistant Chapter Adviser, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity; and Lead Volunteer, Marietta College Mid-Ohio-Valley Regional Association.
Cindy retired from the public library field after serving 24 years as Director of the Boone County [KY] Public Library District. While working and living in Kentucky she served on a number of professional and civic boards, councils, and committees. Since returning to her hometown of Marietta, she enjoys spending her time volunteering, gardening, and, of course, reading. Cindy is a graduate of Marietta Senior High School and holds a Bachelors in Education from Marshall University and a Masters in Library Science from University of Kentucky. In addition to Harvest of Hope, Cindy volunteers with the Master Gardner program, Marietta in Bloom, and the Recycling Center.
Alicia is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Marietta College and holds a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Purdue University. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Neuroscience, Learning and Behavior, Research Methodology, Human Sexuality, the Science of Food Intake, and Introductory Psychology. Her research interests include studying how biological and environmental factors contribute to food intake and body weight regulation. Recently Ali has been interested in the problem of food insecurity in overweight and obesity in children. She is also interested in local and national politics and participates in events that reflect her concern about the influence of government on human rights and social justice. Ali resides in Marietta with her daughters Sophia and Emma.
Emily is a sophomore at Marietta College double majoring in International Leadership studies and Political Science, with a minor in Organizational Social Responsibility. She is currently serving as the student board member for Harvest of Hope through the NextGen program offered at Marietta College which educates students on non-profit management, leadership, and grant writing. Emily is involved in Student Government and is Vice President of United Women of Power. She is a tour guide at Marietta College and has worked in the Admissions office for two years. She has also been an Americorps Intern at High Rocks Academy for Girls in Hillsboro West Virginia where she taught horseback riding and media studies. Her interests include volunteering at the Castle, meeting new people, learning about Marietta History, and gardening.
Dave is retired from a career as a Master Electrician. Over the years, he has served as a project manager, designed and estimated projects, created project budgets, and done installations. His volunteer work is extensive and includes working with the Latrobe Street Mission, helping with community meals at the Knights of Columbus hall, serving on the IBEW Executive Board, teaching an adult Sunday school class, and serving on various committees of the Muskingum Valley Presbytery. Dave and his wife Libby live in Lowell and enjoy spending time with their four children and several grandchildren. His hobbies include golf and bowling.
Bill lives in Marietta with his wife Dee. He is enjoying retirement after a career that has included 18 years with AEP, 15 years with Advantage Bank and 30 years working with the family business, Cables Hardware and Furniture Company. In addition to spending time with his children —James, Julie and Jenni—Bill enjoys travelling and collecting classic and antique cars and trucks as well as American coins. In addition to serving on the Harvest of Hope Board, Bill can often be found on the HOH truck picking up and delivering rescued food.
